Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, LAMA Antique & Restaurant offers a delightful foray into authentic Nyonya cuisine that pays homage to its Penang roots. Customers frequently rave about the cozy ambiance adorned with vintage Peranakan artifacts, making each visit a feast for both the palate and the eyes.

Diners have particularly enjoyed standout dishes such as beef rendang and assam prawns, with many noting the distinct, rich flavors that transport them back to Penang's culinary landscape. The surprise of complimentary refills for the delectable lemongrass pandan drinks has also been a unique touch not often found in other restaurants.

However, opinions vary; while some guests find the taste deeply satisfying, others suggest the dishes could use a little more punch to truly shine. For instance, Kapitan chicken and tofu have drawn mixed reviews on their flavor profiles. Portions are generous but might require larger groups to order multiple plates, which can add up.

In summary, if you seek a blend of nostalgia and Nyonya flavors, LAMA Antique & Restaurant is worth the visit, though adjustments in seasoning and variety could elevate the dining experience even further.

Review highlights

Based on 105 reviews

Reviews for LAMA Antique & Restaurant highlight its cozy, authentic Nyonya dining atmosphere with décor that reflects traditional Baba-Nyonya heritage. Customers frequently praise the attentive service and the diverse menu offering classic Penang-style Nyonya dishes, complemented by unique specialty drinks with refill options. The food is generally appreciated for its flavorful profiles, though some diners feel the dishes lack a certain depth or “oomph” for full satisfaction. While the price point is noted as on the higher side, the overall dining experience is regarded as enjoyable and authentic. Convenient parking and friendly management further enhance the appeal, encouraging repeat visits despite occasional mixed feelings about the food intensity.

We enjoyed our dinner experience at the restaurant. Ordered their beef rendang, stir fried kailan, pie tee, assam prawns, sago for desert. Had lemon grass pandan drinks (hot and cold). Packed full of flavour, taste fantastic. First time we experienced refill for specialty drinks at any restaurant. Thank you.

I must say the ambience and service of the restaurant were fantastic. The restaurant also offered many varieties of Nyonya dishes. However we felt that the taste was there but not really hitting the oomph. It did gave us the taste of nyonya food but not towards the full satisfaction. Perhaps we are just too particular in food. Hope it can continue to improve in the future. Parking was convenient as it has dedicated customer parking lots.

A cozy atmosphere paired with the authentic flavors of Penang-style Nyonya cuisine. The food is absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking the best Nyonya dishes in KL. The staff are attentive, and the managers are friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Will definitely be back soon!

When we walked into this restaurant , we expect this restaurant serves good authentic Nyonya food from Penang but a little disappointed because the food is just so so only . No doubt the ambiance is nice and very baba nyonya look but food is just normal . Price is not cheap and they only have one serving for each meal . So basically each meal can serve up to 2-3 person . So if you come in a big group you might need to order 2-3 plates of each option . The kapitan chicken tastes and looks more like curry chicken . The tofu is tasteless . The only dish we love is the Pongteh chicken . And we would like to have otak otak but they don’t sell here .

Finally went there after hearing about it for awhile. As I have eaten at many peranakan joints, especially in penang and Singapore, I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and appetising, especially the telor belanda and chicken kapitan. Not cheap though but overall enjoyable. Don't mind going again . Service was good. The place was decorated like an old peranakan house with artifacts and antiques. Nothing fancy or very valuable but certainly create a vintage ambience. Worth a visit.

Food overall is decent. Price and portion is ok. But i think the pongteh is not authentic. So far the most authentic one i had is in melaka from linh neo. Im from nyonya heritage so i think i know how it should taste. Lobak is also good. Sago dessert is good.

Overall food taste is good just the portions is a little bit small for some disher which only can serve for 3-4pax so if more than six person so maybe need to order extra. Good environment and easy to get parking. Must do booking instead of walk in, because it’s full during weekends

I like the vibes, it's in town yet, a bit out of the way. Ample parking space. Take heed you need to reserve before hand to avoid disappointment. Limited space for dinning, during busy hours. The food is good home cooked style. A bit different from your regular Nyonya restaurant. Had a great time, hope to go again soon to try out the other dishes..
